Being able to provide my medical student’s with such a compelling patient perspective, while also highlighting the importance of early diagnosis when dealing with progressive diseases, is beyond what they can learn in a textbook. Students are the future of the rare disease field and they may not remember a slide during a lecture, but patient stories will stick with them and they just might save a life by knowing the signs and symptoms and appropriate tests to run thanks to the ASB.
